There's something amazing about letting go and having fun. Art isn't about rules or guidelines... For me, art is about color and joy.
One night, while trolling Instagram, I came across a video of a painting technique that I hadn't done since college. I had a flashback - remembering scraping and moving acrylic paint around - watching the colors meld and mix in wonderful ways.
The next day, I went to the art store and bought a bunch of tubes of acrylic paint, and then started playing around. I forgot how infuriating mixing acrylic paints can be - how the colors don't quite behave the way I want them to. So I started smaller - focusing on one color at a time ("Sprinkling of Joy" series) and then experimenting with moving the paints in different ways.
Fear used to hold me back a lot - from lots of different things. From speaking up, from going out. From leaving when I should have and from staying at parties when I was afraid of what would come next.
I've spent the past few years trying to make sure that I don't make decisions out of fear. Even little ones - like what type of paint to use. And I'm loving the results.
